Inshore

Best bet in Shore right now is plenty of keeper Mangrove snappers, Sea Trout, Flounder and Sheephead, but this time of year everything is on the hunt as the bait fish become a bit less predictable. Lots of variety to be had as it’s not uncommon to see a dozen different species of fish throughout the day. Best bait is live shrimp if you’re not able to find the bait fish in shallow water.

Offshore

Lots of Red and Gag Grouper and Snapper in 30 to 50 feet of water to be had but you have to go through a lot of the smaller ones to get the keeper size in the cooler.

Start by using cut squid to get the party started with the gray Snapper and Company and when the smaller grouper start showing up switch to live bait or cut bait.

Remember the Gags need to be 24 inch in the Gulf now and nothing beats a live pinfish on the bottom to get their attention.

On the way to your favorite spot, don’t overlook a chance to troll if you see birds and bait, a couple of deep diver plugs and a Clark spoon can get you some unexpected top water action.
